Herbie Hancock got his start playing in Miles Davis’ band. After playing for a while in one of Miles’ most successful bands, he went on to lead his own for a while. Herbie embraced synthesizers and funk and is well known for his playing on the Rhodes piano. His bassline for the song Chameleon can be recognized instantly. |
Lennie Tristano, piano.
Lennie was a blind jazz pianist virtuoso. He is well known for playing a walking baseline in his left hand and swinging, rhythmically complex melodies in his right. His solo and ensemble playing are some of the best by any piano player ever to live. Later in his life, Lennie focused on teaching and has many accomplished students. |
